About HISA

HISA is an incorporated company, limited by guarantee of members. ACN 097 598 742. Registered 24th July 2001 ABN 80 097 598 742. A not-for-profit professional organisation.

History
HISA was established in 1992 by representatives of health informatics groups operating within Australia at that time. The first HIC national event was held in Brisbane in August 1993. In 1994 HISA confirmed its status as an incorporated body following the first Annual General Meeting of national members at the Gold Coast meeting of HIC'94. In the following formative years HISA and informatics groups continued to work toward a national governing body and constitution.

In year 2000 HISA became a national governing health informatics body. Its constitution and accountability registered with the Australian Securities Commission organisation (ASIC) see http://www.asic.gov.au/.

HISA is currently a registered national company limited by guarantee by members - HISA Ltd.

HISA Board Elections

Nominations will soon be called to fill 4 positions on the HISA Board. Nominations will open on Monday 7^th July and will close on Monday 28^th July. If there are more than 4 valid nominations then an election will be held during the HISA Annual General Meeting in Melbourne on 1^st September.

AHHA-HISA Position Paper on Information Management

HISA has worked with the Australian Healthcare and Hospital Association (AHHA) to develop a position paper on short to medium term projects in Health Information Management following a request from the Australian Minister's Office.

Michael Legg (HISA President) led the roundtable of over 20 industry and academic experts in eHealth. Michael Legg, David More and Richard Dixon-Hughes used the roundtable contributions to develop the position statement that was delivered by Michael and the team to the Minister's Office and senior Government officers in an AHHA briefing session on Monday 21st April 2008.

HISA VISION FOR EHEALTH IN AUSTRALIA

HISA has released its vision for Australian eHealth.

The document is entitled "A Vision for an Australian
Healthcare System
Transformed by Health Informatics". It establishes a vision, assesses the current position and provides a start for a national eHealth plan.

The document discusses the strategic alignment of Australian healthcare in this area, together with the accelerators for moving forward and the issues that could restrict our progress. This report represents the contributions from a large and broad group of those involved in healthcare with extensive knowledge of the eHealth domain.
