For the first time HIC08 will incorporate a new stream of presentations focused on the application of health informatics in its conference format. These papers will not be reviewed using the academic peer review process applied to the scientific conference papers but will be checked for quality and content. The aim is to provide delegates with practical insights into the implementation of eHealth systems and provide a platform for exposure of innovations that might not yet have had formal evaluations.

Overview
The organising committee is seeking presentations from both vendors who deliver information technology products and services into the healthcare industry and those healthcare providers who implement the technology solutions. There will be two groups of presentations, the first relating to implementations and the second group relating to systems and technologies.
Systems presentations will be selected on the uniqueness of the technologies and services they describe and the potential future significance of those solutions to healthcare. Implementation presentations will be selected on the basis of the insight they provide into the issues surrounding the implementation of healthcare information systems and process into the Australian healthcare environment. Implementation presentations will also be eligible for HISA's annual Don Walker Awards. More information on the Don Walker Awards can be obtained from www.hisa.org.au/donwalker2008 .
