Dear Colleagues
The Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) invites the submission of papers, panels and workshops for the 2009 Health Informatics Conference (HIC '09) to be held in August, 2009 in Canberra, at the Canberra Convention Centre. Submissions for papers are due on March 9.
Healthcare brings together both practitioners and information technologists in unique partnerships that fuel rapid advacements in the delivery of care. In this field of constant discovery, healthcare's use of information and communication technology continually expands the limits of the domain and has led to stunning innovations and intensely practical outcomes.
"Frontiers of Health Informatics - Redefining Healthcare" seeks to capture this diversity of achievement in linking science and medicine with information technology. Importantly, it looks at the practical systems and process issues that need to be addressed now, to meet the challenges of the future.
HIC'09 is built around four key information technology themes that are driving change and innovation in Australian healthcare. Each theme looks to analyse the leading edge technologies that are being implemented and the opportunities they create. The HIC '09 themes are:
This conference highlights the multidisciplinary nature of health informatics and provides a unique opportunity to bring together the finest minds from the health care, academia, industry and non-profit organisations. It aims to forge new industry collaborations and identify potential avenues of research and development across all models of healthcare and human diseases.
This is a truly exciting time for health informatics.
See you in Canberra in August 2009!

Papers can be submitted online through the HIC' 09 Paper Submission page.
The Conference will include scientific paper and poster presentations as well as panels and workshops related to the theme of the Conference.
Panels
Panel topics may be on a specific aspect of health informatics practice or applications, or about interdisciplinary viewpoints that cut across traditional themes. Panels should be limited to four participants and a moderator. Panel sessions will typically consist of four 15-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of questions, with 10 minutes for closing discussion.
Workshops
For proposals, include title and brief description of the workshop; names of workshop organiser and each presenter including affiliation; address, email address and phone numbers for all. Also include audio-visual equipment needs for the session, and whether or not session presenters will provide their own equipment.
