The successful completion of the inaugural Health Privacy Futures conference - HPF'08, brought together healthcare providers, consumers and Australia's leading privacy experts, to help bring clarity and definition to this critical issue. Through HPF ’08 innovative workshops, outstanding presentations and engaging speakers, HPF ‘08 has succeeded in offering better understanding of the national perspective and making a significant contribution to setting the national regulatory framework for the future of health privacy. In addition, our sponsors’ company display stands provided another interactive networking opportunity for the delegates.
You can download conference presentations from HPF ’08 website, which is still open and contains details on speakers, workshops, presentations and more.
We are thrilled with the achievement of HPF ‘08 in Brisbane and are looking forward to the next HPF Conference in 2010 – check back here for more details.
The Federal Privacy Law reform has now moved up a level whereby the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet are now seeking feedback. The proposed Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) recent ‘Report 108' has nearly 300 recommendations running into three volumes and 2,700 pages. Hence, the government plans to address this in two stages.
The Universal Privacy Principals (UPPs) and reforming Health information form part of the first stage with the aim of finalising legislative amendments in 12/18 months. We are seeking comment and feedback on the Department's proposed amendments for the UPPs that relate to health informaticians.
