CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

HIMAA invites the submission of abstracts for its 2009 National Conference. The conference will be held at Perth, Western Australia 14th - 16th October 2009.

The theme of the conference is Health Information Management: A Strategic Asset, with the broad topic area being Health Information Management’s real and/or potential contribution to the achievement of organisations’ strategic goals.Within this theme, four broad topic areas are envisaged, although other topic areas that fall within the theme are welcome:

Innovation
Originality and advancement in health information technologies. Innovative projects in health information management.

Leveraging Assets
 Experiences and challenges in ensuring finances, human resources, asset management and legislation enable a functioning health information system at all levels.

Connecting the Business
Experiences and challenges in moving from organisational silos to enterprise wide engagement and use of health information.

Managing Risk
  Real life experiences. Planning for, managing, measuring and mitigating risks. Business contingency planning, crisis management.

Criteria for Selection

Paper selection for oral presentation will be made by the Conference Editorial Committee.

Criteria for selection will include innovation, relevance and professional interest. The Committee is seeking contributions which will provide participants with both practical information and newly researched findings.

Important information for intending authors

Submissions for inclusion in the Conference program should comply with the following criteria. Please follow these criteria carefully, as papers that do not include all details cannot be accepted.

  • Papers should be original, and the author's own work. Work which has been previously published or presented must include details of when and where presented and may be included at the discretion of the committee.
  • All submitted manuscripts must be complete and legible.
  • All manuscripts are to be submitted in English.

    What to include when submitting an abstract

    The following information must be submitted with each abstract:

    Author/s
  • Name of principal author. Family name should be shown in bold. Please include your title
  • Names of all contributing authors
  • Name of author's organisation
  • Full mailing address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address
  • Brief (100 word) c.v. for each author
  • Whether the paper, if accepted, requires peer - review

    Title of presentation

  • An abstract of not more than 300 words
  • References / Acknowledgements and Contact Details
    Categories of Presentation

    Papers will be sourced from a wide range of topics, however authors are encouraged (but not limited to) submitting papers based around the theme/topic areas listed above.

    How to submit an abstract

    E-mail. Abstracts can be sent to EO@himaa.org.au as either .RTF or .DOC format.

    Mail. Please send a 3.5" diskette/CD/DVD with files saved as either .RTF or .DOC format and two hard copies of all documents to:

    Due date for accepting abstracts

    Abstracts must be submitted by 30th March 2009. All abstracts will be acknowledged by e-mail or in writing.

    Notification of acceptance

    Authors will be notified in writing of the result of their submission by May 2009. Notification will include advice regarding acceptance for oral presentation; allotted duration for oral presentations and preliminary information (which is subject to change) about the session time for the presentation. At this time, authors will be offered the opportunity to revise the paper/abstract. Upon acceptance, authors will also be advised about submitting full-text copies of their presentation for publication in the Conference Proceedings. HIMAA reserves the right to publish all accepted papers in the HIM Journal.

    Costs

    Successful presenters are advised that they are responsible for meeting all costs associated with attending the conference, and the presentation of their paper.
