The Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) scheme came into effect on 22nd February 2018. A data breach is an unauthorised access or disclosure of personal information, or loss of personal information. This scheme formalises a long-standing community expectation to be told when a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm occurs. By reinforcing accountability for personal information protection, the NDB scheme supports greater consumer and community trust in data management.
